What this service does

fWHR Calculator measures the facial width-to-height ratio of a face in a photo you submit, either by uploading a file or by taking a picture with your camera.

AI system disclosure

An AI system detects facial landmarks in your photo (biometric categorisation under the EU AI Act). The landmark detection is performed by a neural network; the ratio itself is a deterministic geometric calculation from those landmarks.

Who we are

The controller for this processing is the operator of fwhr-calculator.com. Contact: [email protected].

What we process

Your image. The photo you submit is processed in memory to detect facial landmarks and compute the ratio, and is discarded as soon as your result is returned. It is never written to disk, never stored, and never shared.

Analysis records. For each analysis we keep one database record containing only:

  • record metadata — an internal row number, a random identifier for the record itself (not derived from your image or from you), whether it came from live use or an internal backfill, whether the photo was uploaded or taken with the camera, and when the analysis ran;
  • image properties — the width and height in pixels, the file type (JPEG, PNG, or WebP), and the file size;
  • analysis results — the computed ratio, the detection confidence, whether the face appeared frontal, the measurement method, the number of quality warnings, and whether a face was detected or a short error label if not;
  • technical performance — how long the analysis took.

These records contain no image and no IP address, account, session, or cookie identifier. We cannot link a record to you.

Purposes

We process your image solely to compute and return your result. We keep analysis records to operate the service: monitoring reliability, understanding aggregate usage, and improving measurement quality.

Providing an image is not a statutory or contractual requirement. It is needed only so the tool can return a result; if you submit nothing, the tool simply does nothing.

Lawful basis

Processing is based on our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) in operating and improving the service. The image is processed at your request and only for as long as it takes to return your result.

Recipients

Analysis records are stored on our hosting infrastructure. Traffic to and from the site is routed through Cloudflare, our network and security provider, which processes technical connection data (such as your IP address) in transit on our behalf; we never receive or store it. We use no advertising and no analytics services, and we share no data with anyone else. This site sets no cookies.

Where your data is processed

Analysis records are stored on hosting infrastructure located in the European Economic Area (Finland). We do not transfer them outside the EEA. Connection data handled by Cloudflare in transit may pass through its global network; Cloudflare is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and relies on standard contractual clauses for such transfers.

Retention

Images are never stored. Analysis records are kept for 12 months, then deleted automatically.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, and data portability, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. To exercise these rights, contact [email protected]. Note that because analysis records carry no identifier linking them to you, we may be unable to locate records relating to your specific analyses.

Automated decision-making

The analysis is fully automated, but it produces only a measurement. We make no decision that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you, and we do not use your data to profile you.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy at any time. The version published on this page applies, and the effective date above reflects the latest revision.
